The True Value of Strength

Week 23 with Baby Yanez. Here’s what I’m learning:

I’m learning the true value of physical strength.

You might be like, “well, yea duh.” But hear me out.

I’ve known for a long time that it’s important to be strong. Conceptually, this makes sense; strength helps you stay functional for longer (it also looks damn good:P).

BUT I have experienced first hand just what it means to be strong before, during, and after pregnancy, and how that’s impacting my life on a daily basis.

Prior to pregnancy, I focused on building muscles so I could feel and look good.

During pregnancy, I focused on maintaining the muscle I’d built so I could feel better & support my body through all the other incredible changes it was going through.

After birth, I focused on rebuilding that strength to be able to keep up with a growing human (that’s growing way too fast, IMO), and set the example for what fitness means for your health.

And now, here I am, in awe of the strength I have created in my own body. Not just for vanity reasons (I do feel like I look pretty good postpartum), but because I have stuck with something that sometimes felt like I was moving backwards.

What does this have to do with you?

Why do you lift weights?

If you don’t, why don’t you?

I feel like it’s really easy to get lost in doing something because you’ve always done it, or because you feel like you should. But what is YOUR reason?

So what can you do about it?

If you don’t know, I invite you this week to turn inward and sit with that question.

Once you connect with your WHY, it makes the effort seem more worth it.
