Recipe: The Best Bone Broth Recipe You'll Find

The Best Bone Broth Around

It's starting to warm up in Texas, but there's still something so comforting and satisfying about a warm cup of bone broth throughout the day. Bone broth is a staple in our house because of the nutrients it contains which not only promote healthy hair, skin & nails, but also supports healing & soothing of the digestive tract (looking at you, heartburn & IBS).

It also makes it significantly easier to make other things I love (like soup or stews) when I have my fridge or freezer stocked with that good good.

Sometimes getting bones is tough, so we use the Bone Broth Kit from our friends at REP Provisions- included are chicken bones and feet (highest collagen content), and a jar of spices to make it taste better than anything you could buy in the grocery store, but you can also source bones locally from your local ranchers at the farmer's market!

Here's what you need:

>> 3-5 lbs Chicken Bones + feet (or beef bones!)

>> 1 cup Carrots chopped into big chunks

>> 1 cup Onion chopped into big chunks

>> Water (enough to fill the Slow Cooker or pot once ingredients are in)

>> Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder

If you want to try the REP Provisions Bone Broth Kit instead of sourcing bones and spices yourself, you can check it out HERE and use code WOODSIDERANCH for a discount!

If you get the kit, the only thing you need are carrots, onions, and water!

Otherwise, you can get bones (chicken, beef or pork) from your local ranchers and get simmering :P

Here's what you do:

>> Chop onion and carrots into big chunks- if they're too small, it makes it harder to strain them out of the broth once it cooks down, so keep that in mind!

>> Add bones, veggies, spices, and water to the Slow Cooker or large pot on the stove. You'll need enough water to cover the bones to start, and you'll likely add more water as it cooks.

>> If using a slow cooker, cook on high for 10 hours, then move to low for another 6-8 hours. Check at the 5-6hr mark if you need to add more water, then again at the 10 hours mark before switching to low.

>> If using a pot on the stove, bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook on low heat for 10-12 hours, checking liquid level and adding more water if needed.

Drink 1 cup each day for some seriously stellar benefits, and freeze some for later!
