Know When to Fold ‘Em

Week 16 with Baby Yanez. Here’s what I’m learning:

Know when to fold ‘em.

We hit the 4-month sleep regression like clockwork. Where we were going to bed at 8:30 with no problem, we now experienced a baby who napped from 7:30-8:30pm and then was wide awake from 8:30-10 pm.

If you know me, you know that I LOVE my sleep. If I could go to bed at 8 pm every day, I would. I would even choose to go to bed early over going out with friends- and I love my friends.

You know that song that goes, “You gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em”?

This week was about folding (aka surrendering), and working on my intention for 2023 (FLEXIBILITY). Instead of fighting it, we pushed our nighttime routine back (and even added in some reading to baby) in order to get him extra sleepy around 9 pm.

What does this have to do with you?

Where have circumstances changed in your life, but you are still trying to force them to be like they were?

We all fall into the trap of “it worked in the past and all of a sudden it’s not working anymore.” But is that really such a bad thing?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

So what can you do about it?

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, change a habit, or start a new career, how can you do it differently than you’ve been doing?

Weight loss is my best example. If you’ve focused for so long on shrinking your body, what would it look like if you stopped trying to get smaller, and instead tried getting stronger? What if instead of eating less and moving more, you tried eating more and moving better?
